Seasons greetings from your MBNA board of directors. As we end 2016, we would like to give you an update on matters concerning our Meydenbauer Bay Neighborhood. The long awaited sewer replacement along the North edge of the bay is now scheduled to begin in January. It is our understanding that they will start at the west end of the existing park, cross the old park and then the new park property. This is supposed to be done in the water and then covered. It will then come ashore at 99th, and proceed east underground at the waters edge through the parking lots of the city marinas, to the foot of 100thSE, and connect to the Grange pumping station. The bulkhead and shoreline at the foot of 100th SE will be reconstructed. Work going west from the westerly park boundary will be done later, but in the near future.
Work on the new park will be started in early 2017, however work on the actual shoreline will not start until after the fish window opens in mid July. This is the date at which newly hatched salmon fingerlings are supposed to be on their way to the salt water.
The MBNA board continues to meet regularly with the city council members on issues that affect us all such as traffic, parking, noise and crime. We recently commissioned a traffic study by Popp & Associates to review all five of the traffic studies conducted by the city during the run up to the final park master plan in 2010. Our study reveals some significant shortfalls in the city studies. We continue to meet regularly with city park planners to discuss such things, and to also give input on certain phases of park design. A number of our suggestions have been included in the final design.
We are also getting involved in what is known as “The Grand Connection”, which starts in the Wilburton area, crosses I-405 comes through the Downtown Core, the Downtown Park, and eventually ends at the new Meydenbauer Park. This is some years away, but planning is underway, and we are suggesting alternate entry points to the city.
Over the last year or so as many of you have probably noticed, there has been an increase in crime, homelessness and drug activity in Bellevue, and our neighborhood. We have been working closely with the Bellevue Police on this , and we urge everyone to call 911 if you see any suspicious activity. The police log these call, and devote more patrol assets based on the volume of calls.
