Members of the MBNA Board have walked the site with bidders, met with City Park staff including Patrick Foran, the Park Director, and met several times with the on-site Supervisor of IMCO, the contractor for both the sewer replacement project and Phase 1 of the Meydenbauer Bay Waterfront Park.
Here is the rough schedule for Phase 1:
- The City Marina parking lot will be closed starting April 2 until completion of the projects. Only construction traffic will be allowed on 99th Ave. below the lower driveway of Whalers Cove.
- Parking for the Marina will be available at the two houses at the foot of 100th Ave. The City has closed the visitor moorage indefinitely.
- Starting May 16 Phase 1 will kick off with the demolition of the two city-owned houses on 99th Ave. The park site will be extensively graded and a number of retaining walls will be constructed. The existing restrooms will be demolished and the existing park parking lot under the Lake Washington Blvd bridge will be used for construction.
- For two months starting July 16 the pilings will be driven for the floating pier; this work must be completed within the two month “fish window”
- In mid-summer work will also start on the construction of the new beach house, moving the beach to its new location, opening up the stream, creating a pond at the top of the stream, paving paths within the park, and paving the two new parking areas on 99th Ave. and on Lake Washington Blvd. The shape of the park will be in place by the end of 2017.
- In 2018, the park will be irrigated and drained, topsoil will be brought in, trees and bushes will be planted, and walkways and rockery will be finished.
We will keep you advised of developments as we learn more.
