Here’s a brief update from Scott Vander Hyden, Bellevue City Project Manager for the new Waterfront Park, on construction highlights from the last month and what to expect for the remainder of the summer:

  • Installation of rockery retaining walls are nearly 50% complete, and this work will continue for next few months.  This will be followed this fall by final landscaping along the waterfront, the natural areas and the ravine.
  • The 99thAvenue waterfront terraces are complete; these terraces will dramatically improve accessibility to the park and waterfront.  Vehicle access using 99th Ave. to the Meydenbauer Marina and parking lot will return once the park opens.
  • The floating dock sections are now being installed.  Handrails and public art installations will complete the curvilinear pier.
  • Exterior and interior finishes on the beach house continue. Pavers will be installed on the beach house roof later this month, allowing future visitors to enjoy views across Meydenbauer Bay and Lake Washington to Seattle.
  • Construction of sidewalk curb and gutter along Lake Washington Boulevard is underway and should be complete by the end of the month. Expect intermittent LWB lane closures while this work is underway.
  • 99th Ave. is being widened to accommodate diagonal parking and a vehicle load-unload area on the west side. Sidewalks will be added to both sides of the street.

Scott thanks you for your continued patience and says the City continues on-pace to complete the project by years-end. Please feel free to contact Scott (425-452-4169 [email protected]) with questions or concerns.
