By At around 2:30 am on January 25th, 4 gunshots were heard, waking some MBNA Board Members who live near the Meydenbauer Apartments. This building has access from both 100th and 101th Avenues to its lobby. Within minutes, police and fire units responded. According to information from police officials, one person was deceased in one apartment, which was on fire.
Most police and fire units responding came down 100th, crossed Main Street and entered the Bellevue Apt property through its gate on 100th. Even a hook and ladder truck entered through this gate. An additional ladder truck accompanied by a pumper came Westbound on Meydenbauer Way SE, turned uphill on 100th, and parked in the street. Fire hydrants on 100th were used. All 52 units of the Meydenbauer Apartment building were evacuated. Two apartments were damaged, the one with the deceased person, and the one below due to smoke and water.
For MBNA, the important thing is the emergency use of 100th by first responders. Two ladder trucks, two pump trucks, EMT vehicles, command cars, police cars, etc. all used 100th. This incident certainly strengthens our case for keeping 100th open, instead of closed, as proposed in the park master plan.
