We have great news to report regarding the planning for the Phase II Expansion of Meydenbauer Bay Park.
On September 18, members of the Bellevue Park Department met with the Bellevue Park Board. MBNA members were in attendance as well. While design work for Phase II is still a work in progress, we are happy to report that 100th SE will remain open. The MBNA has worked hard over the course of a decade to keep this important access road open.
The expanded park will also include a large open air viewing platform and underground parking garage at the site of the current Bayview Apartments. Changes to the waterfront and city moorage will be deferred for several years due to permitting and funding issues, and will be finished later as a separate phase of the park.
There are tentative plans for another City Outreach meeting in November. If you would like to participate and learn more about the City of Bellevue’s plans to expand Meydenbauer Bay Park, please sign up for our newsletter to stay appraised of critical dates and meeting times.
Water Safety continues to be one of our top priorities. Thanks to the generous donations from private citizens, spearheaded by the Bacon Family Foundation, the Bellevue Fire Department will receive rescue-equipped jet skis to be used in water rescue. These water craft will be housed at the City Marina. In the past, Bellevue Firefighters had to use non-motorized paddle boards for water rescues, which were not nearly as effective. We hope to help coordinate this function with the REI water craft rental business located at the Meydenbauer Beach Park.
The tricky intersection of 100th Ave NE and NE 1st Street (next to the Downtown Bellevue Park) will soon see a 4-way stop sign to assist with traffic and pedestrian flows.
Lastly, Jon Abood, our longtime caretaker who was a resident at the City Marina, passed away in late May. He will be greatly missed, and at this time the City has no plans to replace him with another resident.
